Last night I went to watch some live music at Kind inLincoln, (which was quite good!) One thing that was brought to the forefront of my thoughts was the struggle of balancing a day job with making music. A fellow musician couldn’t quite get his head around the fact I have a full time job, and how I would ever manage to find the time to also write music and play live. I think a lot of struggling musicians tend to be unemployed arty types, whereas I have a particularly vanilla day job. Continue reading
Nerves
There was a point the last time I played when my left leg started to shake. Not a lot, but uncontrollably. I don’t think this has happened to me since I was 14, playing in a house music competition at school (I believe a particularly flat rendition of Oasis’s “Stand by Me”). I honestly don’t know what brought it on but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t excess alcohol or some kind of motor disease, more likely it was due to being nervous. Continue reading

So this blogging business is new for me. I’ve found myself in a lot of new situations since I started making music on my own. Around a year ago I decided that the little songs I was writing to occupy my spare time were probably worth investing a bit more effort in, and I realised in order to do anything more with them I was going to have to start playing live.
